Tamper-resistant receps...

Anybody have a feel for how the inspectors are handling this new requirement on branch circuits added to existing structures? I mean, if you were called to add a dedicated, 20 amp circuit for an entertainment center, are they looking for TR receps?

I don't do much resi but from what I've read and heard I don't think TR or afci are required even with a panel change; let alone a small job like adding one circuit. That said, if it was a kids bedroom I'd probably use one.

A larger remodel project where substantial (the legendary 50%) work is being done then all bets are off.

Here in Minnesota on panel changes so far we don't have to install arc faults. If it's a new outlet in a bedroom we DO have to provide an arc fault breaker for it (haven't hit 2008 yet). I imagine the same will hold true for TR. I don't know how replacement only issues will be yet but if the price drops a little further I don;'t see it being much of an issue.
**Disclaimer** Not providing an opinion for or against TR or arc fault breakers.
