Default Test Tool Survey - $10 Gift Card for First 100 Respondents from ElectricianTalk.com

Hey Guys,

I've been talking to a major test tool manufacturer about some projects we have coming up and they asked for our help on a survey. I agreed to share the details with you and in return for your time they are going to give the first 100 respondents from ElectricianTalk.com a $10 American Express Gift Card.
It's a short survey and I think it will be worth your time. If you know of any other professional commercial or residential electricians who aren't a member of this site be sure to tell them to come to www.ElectricianTalk.com and sign up for an account and take the survey.

Thanks

------------------------------------

An electronic test and measurement tool manufacturer is sponsoring an online survey to understand the types of tools and brands you purchase to perform your job. This survey is intended for residential or commercial electricians who regularly use test tools on the job and should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

In appreciation of your time, we will provide the first 100 respondents with a $10 American Express Gift Card.

Please click here to take the survey: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB229G3VE432N

Hurry, the survey and American Express Gift Card offer ends August 8, 2009!

I started to fill the survey but then I realized they want my email address and home address to mail me more crap. I didn't submit because of it.

I usually give an email address I don't use very often but not my home address.

I'd think if you fill it out in the first day or two you would be one of the first 100. But I guess there is no sure way of telling.

I sent them an email asking how they use the information. It was my understanding that they needed the address in order to send you the gift card.

I thought about that but they could do an online gift card instead of mailing it. I was suspicious---

Personally, I never fill out questionaires for the sole reason I end up innundated with spam filling my inbox and junk mail hiding all the mail I need. Same thing for rebate forms. I end up spending more time dealing with all the crap than I ever get for the rebate.

Well, let me hear back from them to be sure. It's a large company and I don't think their first motive is spam but what do I know.

FYI... I'm not getting paid for this or anything. I just thought it might be a win/win if guys got to give input on products and got some incentive for doing so.

OK, I just heard back from them.

They will ONLY use the contact info to send out the gift card. They will not use it for any other purpose. They are going to try and edit the questions to make it even more clear that this is the case.

Hopefully this helps.

OK, last update from me. Just another email from them...

Ok, I’ve updated the questions. Can you also add that contact info is optional and not required if they’re not interested in receiving a gift card? I’ll delete all the data after we send out the gift cards.
It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I just figured $10 for 5 mins ain't bad... and maybe you'll have some input for a company who's products you probably use every day.

Hope this clears it up for everyone.

I filled it out. What the heck. 26 questions, 2 minutes, 10 bucks. Not so bad.

It told me that I didn't answer question 4 also, but I looked closely, and I forgot to check one of the boxes in that question.

In this day and age, you really need to have a "disposable" email account that you use for this sort of thing. This manufacturer promises not to spam us (and I belive them, they're a major player), but everyone should have a free gmail or yahoo to use purposely for stuff like this.
