Default Are these recepticles legal?

I work contract to a Manufactured home dealer. I install services, wire garages, do final inspections, etc. One of the home builders uses these switches and recepticles to wire whole houses with. The recept. is a Pass and seymour part # sc-85. you have to strip about two inches of romex jacket and then push the conducters into the clamps.

They pack two and three romex wires into these things. To me, they violate 250.148 because if you remove the recpticle, you lose your grounding path.

I have seen these things in older homes from the 70's. I just don't see how they are legal. What do you guy's think?

I should mention that these don't fit inside a junction box, they ARE the junction box. They are like a remodel box. They have their own drywall ears to mount them.

I only see them in trailers, so I've tended to call they "trailer receptacles" or "trailer switches". They work to a whole different rule book. http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/w...fr3280_06.html

The P&S one's in your picture were formerly made by Slater. When you find these in the field, most of them will be Slater. P&S bought out Slater in 1988.

I keep one replacement single pole switch and one receptacle on the truck. I get mine from American something-or-other, out of Pittsburgh, PA.

An Inspector once told me that the UL listing means it is approved for installation.
I can see it in the first photo.
However, I wouldn't want these in MY home. (mobile or not)
