Default What do y'all think of this job opportunity?

Has anyone worked for the cable company before? I know it's not exactly what I want to do, but it's a foot in the electrical door and could be a good job and experience while I'm waiting to go to school or for the Union's apprentice program to start up next year.

Comments?

Mackie if you need a job then go for it. But IMHO you will be learning bad habits that may be hard to break. Our local cable company is Cox , their techs are a bunch of hack and slash installers.... (however this may only may be a local branch thing)... Time is money and the way they slap together an install they must be making tons of it!!

In fact working for them may go against you.

We have Comcast here. When we moved in it took three trips and different guys to get it to work. A couple months back the tv lost service, the guy that came out got the tv to work but when he left the computer had no signal. It took another week to get them both to work at the same time. Comcast has issues with customer service and workmanship.

Cable installation has absolutely nothing to do with electrical work. Of course you will learn how to get into attics and crawl spaces, but they install their cable different than electrical cabling.
If you need a job right now take it. But do not expect it to help you get an electrical position in the future. Being employed and a good reference will be of some help.
