Default What would you do? Meter Main disco

So back to the house with a 100' #4 water ground.

This is for a paying friend, POCO supplies the meter can (single meter only) and drop.
Would you spend/charge the $300+- for a meter main disco?
or- save $ by the POCO giving the pan and me giving a $140 main brkr disconnect? I think the single enclosed unit would look nicer, but this dude has not a lot of money and I'm trying to help, I will be payed, but fighting the - save him money and my distaste for having the side look like an electrical closet feeling.

edit: AHJ wants disco outside. No Idea why.

Know what I mean?

So the firefighters can turn off the power safely before chopping holes and spraying water all over the place.

If it's cheaper, and I didn't have to look at it, I'd do whatever was functional and safe.

I have been using the millbank meter mains with feed through lugs last one I bought was about 160 and was an 8 space 16 circuit. Model number u5168-xtl-200-kk-pl. They also make a 20 space that I think is close to the same price.

We use the Cutler Hammer 200 amp meter main, it's only about 50 bucks more than a meter, somewhere around 95.00

Home depot has reasonably priced 200amp meter main, Siemens I think. The milbank ones aren't bad either. The thing I hate is sleeving the 4/0 ser in pvc and the lb. Meter can with tall narrow breaker enclosure underneath seems to be a little easier with the ser going through the back of the enclosure through the sill.

Just a thought ,if you use 4/0 ser after the main it would be only good for 180 amps. That would limit your inside(sub) panel to a 150 amp.Or am I mistaken and we could round up to the next size breaker?

Since there's no such thing as 180 amp breaker, you can round up

Yes I would say the panel on the inside of the house is now a sub-panel and 310.15B(7) would not apply to the SER cable.I was told I couldn't round -up by an inspector but I think that was for an Off peak panel for heating only, however probably can round up for a general service panel.I am going to look it up but if any one cares to give a code reference for the rounding up part I could use the help.
