Default wire prices..

I did some checking today.. so I figured I would post the current prices.. check your local prices and post them..

2/0 CU se cable.... $10.85 ft.

2/0 CU THHN...... $2.80 ft.

4/0 4/0 2/0 AL. triplex.. $2.75 ft.

Is there a point to this thread? It's highly unlikely that wire prices are going to vary very widely across the country.

On craigslist I can get the wire for a third of the price mentioned above.

AL is much cheaper than copper. In my opinion, if you're using copper wire for a service, you're throwing money down the toilet.

I hate to ask, but what is everybody paying for 12/2 romex right now, I'm paying $82 a 250' roll here. I remember seeing a post a while back that stated in the 60-70 range. Just curious.

My point is that unless you're buying in very big quantities, your over the counter price is not likely to be much different no matter where you go. Even then, supply houses don't discount wire much since there is very little markup on wire in the first place.

4/0 AL SE cable is 1/3 the cost. Why would you even bother using copper cable?
