Wow Great Website
I had a problem last week that included getting some interview questions answered by electricians for my local unemployment office. I'm applying for the WAG which is a grant to go to school because I was recently laid off. To make sure I was making the right career move they gave me a lot of paper work to do including the interviews. I couldn't find any help locally so I posted them on here with hundreds of electricians twice now. Still yet no help but its sad that I was better off emailing a massive amount of emails to random electric company's and IBEW offices as far as California. A great brotherhood of electricians here to busy to help a future electrician because they were to busy filling out a tool survey to get a bogus gift card.
Really great inspiration for want to be electricians. Lead by example huh...

Man, I have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry about your poor experience. What I can say, for sure, is that your post above was not especially helpful to your cause.
What I can say, for sure, is that your original post for help was abnormally complex. Long posts often go ignored, and posts with as many questions as you asked nearly always go ignored. You might try another post, and boil it down to the qestion you really want answered, and see how you fare. A post that is just a paragraph or two normally gets more attention. Sorry, but that's life on a forum. This is like "short attention span theatre".

I will and do apologize for the ones that did not see my post. There are genuine electricians out there that have a passion for there profession and are willing to help anyone with interest the best they can. Its just the profound amount of people I contacted for a five min. interview that were just way to busy to help out. Some really didn't have the time and I completely understand but with the economy the way it is its not like business is booming so all of them not having time is highly unlikely. One of the post I put on here ended up being bypassed with small talk and the other was to interested in my previous job. Now I know its peoples personal time to do with what they wish but come on man a five min. interview.

Your request for a 5 minute interview is unusual, but you're welcome to call me right now. seven one seven eight one six, four two one four. I'll call you right back if it's a toll call for you.

It sounds like your just venting. If you really want to stand out have you tried walking into an office and asking if they had any openings?
Second tip, avoid the unemployment office unless you are really hurting.
Third tip, avoid the union...

The point of the interview process is for you to show the desire to get off your butt and have a face to face talk with real world electricians. Maybe do a little networking and maybe get a job offer. If someone stopped by my office and needed this I would try and help I would also tell them to come see me when they were out of school.Show a little drive and do the leg work.Nobody likes cry babies.

amazing
Wow its pretty amazing how many replies you can get when you churn the water up a bit. In reply to all who seem I want a walk in to this thing. I have applied with the local NECA/JATC for the apprenticeship a little over a year ago. I exceeded all the requirements including an A in high school algebra with an intro into calculus, I scored a 6 on the battery test with a min. requirement of 4, and I have almost 3 year experience as an electrical motor technician. Granted the economy took a downturn when I applied but the competition I was against at least had a two year degree. Now that I'm laid off I'm trying to take advantage of the grant program through the unemployment office, for one its hard to find a job fitting my qualifications right now and two the schooling is free which makes me a competitive candidate for the apprenticeship. As for the interviews I have walked into both the Local 16 office and the NECA training building with no help. So its not like I'm here in front of my computer trying to get the easy way of doing it because I'm to lazy or not enough drive. I'm sitting in front of my computer asking random people for help because its my last resort and I have a passion to be an electrician. Ive been turned down many times on interviews, jobs, apprenticeships and here I set trying to still make it happen. I guess your right and I just don't have enough drive.

Times are tough most places, men with experience are finding it tough to land a position.
Other than
1. Knocking on every door you can INCLUDING open shops.
2. Going to school and taking any job available to pay bills.
3. Look for an area with work and moving.
There may be little we can add.
In most locals if anyone gets in and goes to work I would bet it is a members son?

Or, you come off as a hot-head who should be held at arm's length? I duno. I think I can understand your frustration. Poke around a little bit here and you'll quickly notice that you're in a fairly large boat with an awful lot of other people in your situation.

probably alittle to hot
I do believe I came off a little to strong in the post but its really frustrating when you exceed qualifications and standards for a position to just get passed up for a shoe-in from a members family. Please don't get me wrong, I know a lot have made it on there own but having inside help doesn't hurt. I know its going to happen one way or another but its like I'm hitting brick walls every turn and cannot catch a break. Yet everything I have I've fought for so i guess greater appreciation comes with the fight.
I used to wear pajamas in the day only because I worked third shift.

My whole career I was the bottom of the rung guy. Others got in the IBEW right away, others were picked for the shining stars and given the choice jobs.
I just kept plugging ahead and did everything that came my way, still not the smartest but I am ahead of many of those that were picked to be the best and brightest.
Not trying to burst your bubble but sometimes being the best and brightest is just not enough. Personality and perseverance go a long way, keep plugging away.

Will do
Plug away I will. Ive come to far and have done to much to give up now. I am by no means the brightest or the strongest. Book smarts and common sense will get you to the same spot with either or. I try to diversify and find a middle ground in which my father was always good at. I know enough book smarts to get the ball rolling and enough common sense to stay alive on the job. I can rebuild a transfer case then cook a mean cake after wards.
