Default Wwyd?

Very muck like a recent thread. Plug in lug kit burned up.

Do you repair it for $350 or tell them it must be replaced.

First pic is pretty bad, sorry.

Wonder if copper is damaged if it's just discolored like that? The busses don't look melted. Not sure I'd be comfortable repairing it though. Recommend replacement.

I would sell them a panel. If they decline I would give them the option to repair it with NO Warranty on the repair.

No warranty is fine.. but what if it is damaged and does smoke test.. Then who's holding the bag..

That bus looks discolored but I would bet will not be an issue. What would cause smoke? No warranty means the customer is holding the bag....And they would be told this if they chose the repair option.

I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a plug-in lug kit. Seems like a bad idea. It was in this case. I'd recommend replacing this burned panel. A repair IMO would be replacing the buss, not writing "burned buss" on the cover.

Replace. Repair is not an option, even sans a warranty. If the place burns down, the owner's lawyer won't give a rat's arse about lack of warranty.

The way the code reads, I don't think you can do anything besides declare that whole bus "scrap". The only compliant repair option is to replace the burned parts, or the entire panel. That said, I've occasionally done as you have done. Rearrange things and put some filler plates in the cover where the burned bus is. Depends on my mood and the phase of the moon.

The HO makes a pretty convincing witness.

Thermally damaged copper and/or Aluminum loses it tensile strength.
Thermally damaged plastic, can become a semi conductor and can absorb moisture.
And that fish paper I'd bet is a conductor. MEGGER IT at 1000 VDC.

Three very good reasons to replace, but the best reason to replace is what Marc stated.

I'd replace that one. Usually when I see plug on lugs burn there was quite a load on it and it really heated up the bus.

I'd replace it.

If HO said he wants it repaired, I'd recommend him someone else for the job.
