Default best secure rural employement?

I am dreaming of owning a nice big acreage, and want to get a few ideas of places to look at for daydreaming.

I would love an acreage with a short commute to an inside wireman gig, I was thinking maybe some rural power generating plants employee union maintenance guys? What rural areas have enough of an electrical "future" that you would be confident purchasing a large property nearby?

Currently in the Midwest, you can suggest places anywhere as I am just trying to gather info on options I may end up having.

There is plenty of work and land if you don't mind every summer packing everything you can fit in your car strapping the children to the roof and running from hurricanes.

I'm reading about these retirees going down there for health care, super cheap. Also seeing people go to India for health care services.

Upstate (WAY upstate) NY. Not sure about the works as of yet, and the taxes are horrible, but land is cheap.
