Default Direction to networking with Contractor hiring helpers Los Angeles AREA

Wow! IBEW Hall has no listings of contractors that are hiring helpers. you see, I am enrolled in a tech math class because I need to brush up on my algebra before I take apprentice exam and in the mean time I thought it would be a good idea to start out as a helper to gain some experience and get my feet wet. I am reading some of the threads and basically learning that you need to know a contractor or know someone who knows a contractor in order to get called out by name from the summer helper program. I am also learning that even when I pass the apprenticeship exam and interview later that I still may have to wait FOREVER to get called to job in order to start apprenticeship . here is what I am looking for
1) A Trade to learn
2) Someone that will give me a chance to start the Trade
3) Direction in the Los Angeles/Orange County area to a Contractor who is hiring helpers NOW and that will call me out from the summer helper program through the IBEW
If ANYONE has ANY INFORMATION or DIRECTION that I can GO PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
