Going back to the Local
SO I left the local {dropped ticket} about 3 yrs ago..
My 1st exp. with the union was good as far as work, but I wasn't impressed with the school {IJ6} and the way I was "tossed" in.
I'll try to explain....
I was in another school called IEC {open shop electrical school} and a friend who was Union talked me into going to the Union...I go and talk with the guys, didn't do ANY orientation {sp} and went to work. I had to find out about union stuff through asking the guys on the job about it...I thought that was odd...the school was really bad...may have been the teacher I had I guess....while at IEC, they really went deep into the NEC and electrical theory and practical applications, where as the local....our teacher was like "do these chapters" and left it at that....thank god I already covered alot of this stuff and the formulas....some of my classmates were lost, and I ended up showing them how to do some stuff.
Now, I have an actual orientation next week and get swore in again the following day at the meeting. I'm looking forward to it again and actually going to orientation this time through...
And for those wondering why I left....I landed a SWEET job with the State at the GA dome as an electrician...free games/events/concerts....and killer benefits. There are a few other 613 brothers working there....and I found out LATER that I could keep paying on my ticket and stay Union....I didn't know 'till I was WAY too deep to get paid up. That was one of the problems was I just wasn't "brought in" to the Union the right way....wasn't taught the "right" way I guess you can call it....
Either way, I am excited about going back with intentions of retiring Union this time!!!
