Default Question about jurisdiction and commuting

I want to eventually apply for jatc apprenticeship, but not where I currently live (NJ). Its a shame really but its going down the tubes fast and im looking to move as soon as I can.

I was looking at juristiction maps of other states and was suprised at what I saw. Some states have enormous swaths of territory for one local to handle.

Hypothetically, in some cases do they actually expect guys to have to commute 2-3 hours to a job site and be there by 7AM??

I realize that as a apprentice you have to go wherever they tell you to go...BUT once you finish training and become journeyman level, can you choose to only recieve jobs that are within reasonable commuting distance?

How do you guys deal with such daunting commutes?

car pool,if you want work in your hometown apply to Mc Donalds. This is constriction and you have to go to the work. Some guys will rent a room together and everybody stays on site usually this is for 10 -12 hour a day jobs. A two hour commute is really not that bad if someone else drives you can nap

Thanks for the reply.

If you work in a large jurisdiction are 2-3 hour commutes frequent and just the nature of the job? Or can you usually find enough work closer to where you live...like within an hour's drive?

buy a decent beater car thats good on gas, and suck it up...743's local is pretty big, luckily, i am pretty much in the center of it so it isnt soo bad.

def, try for a car pool, it helps alot.
