Yea, I saw that after I posted, lol.

I think I'll just hit up the local supply house and pick up the basics. Already have some kleins (side cutters), strippers, tape measure, torpedo level, and some other random things. Just need to get a quality set of klein screw drivers and I *should* be good to start as a first year...

Right???

You might want to get a pair or two of chanel-locks depending if your running any conduit. There are several guy's on here that have list already made up for a first year and so no.

Don't forget dykes, a set of allens both metric and standard, and a good 3/8'' socket set.

By now if you've already got into school you should have all these from working as a helper.

Hey guys...

First off, thanks for all your help. Truth be told, I only worked as a helper for 2 months last summer. I just graduated high school this year, so I'm green as grass.

The tools I have so far (just inventoried them):

side cutters (Kleins and craftsmen)
10-n-1 (klein)*
Tool pouch (carhartt)*
Tool bag (ideal)*
Ideal Vol-Con
Wire strippers (ideal)
Tin-snips
Flash lite (mini-maglite)
Razor knife (craftsmen)
Adjustable wrench (multiple sizes, but def an 8")

Some of the stuff I purchased, other stuff I've acquired from my dad. The stuff with an * next to it was given to me by the JW I worked with over the summer last year...good guy he was. I actually feel bad now that I only worked half-ass last year since he was pretty nice to me.

I'll go out and buy some Channellocks, dykes, and a set of good screwdrivers (klein or ideal) soon....but first I have to go to my orientation on June 29th. I'm sure they'll tell us all we need to know then.

Thanks!
Steve

I remember one of the FIRST jobs I was on, we were pulling 250 and 500 to some extruder lines that were just installed. I was given the opprotunity to make em up inside the lugs. And low and behold I didn't have a set. It sucks to have to go to a journeyman and ask for a hand tool. He gave me a hard time but he knew I was new to the trade and saved some skin on my @ss for me.

I've only used metric alans and sockets on stuff that a first year should not even be close to.

Well, you gentlemen understand what I am trying to say.

No maybe you don't need a set of metric allens on an everyday job, but it's better to have them than not. I know if i was to take them out tonight, Lord knows, I will need them tommorrow.

You'll get a tool list for everything you need. This will be good to get you started.

DONT FORGET THE ALLEN'S!! metric & standard

I don't care what anyone says!

Get a good half round file and a hacksaw if you're gonna be running alot on conduit.
