The set screws in the drive pulley of a large York RTU, I changed out the
motor on last week. While I am not into carrying metric tools in my bag I have needed them more and more this year it seems. Airdale hvac equipment has bolts with 10mm heads on their equipment now where a 5/16" used to be all you needed.

Question:

If you find you need a specific, little used, or uncommon hand tool to do a specific job, do you ask the boss to provide it?

Thumbs down Ideal won't even do in a pinch

Got to a jobsite and realized I had left my Fluke 30 miles away so I hopped into HD and bought their middle of the line Ideal meter. Bottom line is it lasted less than 2 months of medium usage.

if you are union, it is often pretty frowned upon to bring tools not on the list.

What local is that?

In our local and all the sister locals around here, the tool list is a minimum. All electricians bring extra tools.

If some gives you a hard time, tell them to turn that frown... upside down.

U don't need to worry about me...I'm just sayin' a lot of grumpy old wiremen take issue with apprentices having too many tools and I've been given grief for that.

At the same time, I wish I could be working right now...only have worked 4 months this year so far and am 140 on the book.
