Default Resumes

It just dawned on me that we don't have a good place to post resumes, and that might be a helpful thing to do. Sure can't hurt. In the mean time, electricians who are unemployed (or underemployed), feel free to post your resume here in the Electrician Swap section until we get an appropriate category for it (and gauge if there's even any interest). I have a bunch of surplus one's from various guys laying at the office I might scan in and post too. Make your post title for your resume title as follows:

RESUME - FIRSTNAME LASTNAME, CITY, STATE

Like

RESUME - John Smith, Philadelphia, PA

You may omit your address and phone number, if you prefer, and ask for replies by PM or set up a "disposable" email address for replies at Gmail or something.

A strong resume is important, and posting it online might also garner some assistance in beefing up the content or readability of your resume. I know I've gotten some really stellar one's and some that leave me scratching my head over the years.

You can post your resume as straight text in the post (Google can index it that way) or as a PDF attachment.

I can only think of one job I've ever gotten because of a (my wife wrote it) resume. To be honest, I've never really needed one before, just about every job I ever got was because someone approached me with an offer, or I just made a few phone calls.

I imagine there are plenty of guys on the forums who are much the same, good electricians who couldn't write a good resume if their lives depended on it.

My sister helped with mine. I wrote one up, then decided to show it to her, and she said that she would fix it for me....
Foe someone in the business world, like her, resumes are bread-and-butter, but it has never been something I thought I needed until recently. But, I found that I could post it on job web sites, or drop it off at ECs, even if they weren't accepting applications. That is how I found the job I'm starting Monday.
