Default GFI outlet

Alright first off im new to this site obviously and still pretty new to the trade as an apprentice... so heres my question

My parents house was built mid 80s and had an outlet installed outside on the deck. A few months ago my dad and I replaced the outlet with a GFI. Ever since we replaced it the outlet keeps tripping. Im not really sure why it keeps doing it and after researching through google it said it could be one of the other outlets somewhere else in the house has gone bad.

so if you guys have any info. on this please help! thankyou in advance and i look forward to learning more from this site

First off is the outlet the end of the line or does it feed thru to other outlets?
Is the GFCi wired correctly?
Does the GFCI trip immediately or periodically?

I had a problem likewise, I found another outside receptacle loadside on the other side of house completely saturated with water. I would check your line /load wiring first.

Is it on a MWBC? Is there load conductors hooked up?

You sure your "line" side @ the new GFCI is not on the load side of another GFCI somewhere else?

I know this is your dad's place and you want to help but I believe you are probably in over your abilities at this point. There are many possibilities and very little info to go on.

I will say this if the gfci trips right away then you probably hooked it up incorrectly. If it trips after time and there are loads down stream then it is likely something there is causing the issue.

If the outside outlet was just a standard outlet(no gfci) then I'll bet its already fed from a gfci in the house...my bet (cause I've seen it a bunch of times ) is kitchen or bathroom gfci.

Hire an electrician to come out and fix it for you.
