Need some ideas
Hey, I normally due commercial projects and alot of condo projects, have not done alot of house/cabin construction. I am going to be wiring up my dads new cabin this summer. We obtained some #1 Copper teck cable which we are are going to be using for our service, we are going to run the teck cable underground from our pole to the cabin. We though do not want to have exposed teck cable as it is unappealing. We much rather have a PVC pipe which goes into the meter. I am just wondering whats the best way to transition from teck cable to PVC? I thought of just a threaded PVC and just screwing the teck connector into the threaded pvc. Will this work? Any better ideas? Also my dad is abit concerned about the soil settling, and as it settles pulling the cable down with it, do you think this is a concern?
Any help would be great

Settling is a legitimate concern. I've seen it tear conductors out of meter lugs, rip meter cans off the wall, and cause all sorts of carnage. Putting an expansion fitting in the riser is only half the battle. That will keep the conduit from breaking and the meter can on the wall, but will do nothing for the conductors. The conductors will still rip loose, and you can only leave a wee bit of slack in most meter cans. The solution is a slack box. I've used them on new work where there's not virgin material under the conduit and riser quite a few times. I see them as a good problem solver, and not too expensive.

You can also leave a bit of slack in a Quazite type box, and accomplish the same thing.

Cool. Our poco's require an expansion fitting but nothing about a slack box. This is the first time I've heard of it. Great tip.

Just put a small loop in the wire at the bottom of your PVC stub. Should handle any settling.

I've done slack loops in Telco, but I place the vertically with the loop facing down, little more work, but someone may appreciate it one day.

Make sure you leave a nice amount of service slack in the ground, i usually form a "s" shape at the bottom of the trench, why are you going teck if your gunna be underground, usei or useb cables are alot cheaper and acceptable, no conduits needed, then when you come out of the ground sleave a pvc conduit over the cable into the meter, i then would cut a piece of db2 thats an inch bigger then your original conduit about 2 feet long , put 18 inches in the ground, 6 inches above ground, and make sure ur pvc sleave doesnt go deeper then the piece of db2, this will allow for the conduit holding the cable to move freely without the ground/ future concrete ever restricting the pipe. Make sure when you siZe your conduit you take in for account the extra jacket on the usei/ useb cable.
