Default water pump

Just tested a rain water pump. The portable appliance tester came up ok (earth & insulation resistance). Plugged into power point & it tripped the rcd as the pump started up. The power point tested ok when I meggered it. Any ideas?

Luke this is the second thread with a bad RCD. Is it possible you have a bad batch of RCD's. I am assuming you changed the RCD's out with new ones.

If the circuit megged out as Okay then there is something in the pump that is causing the issue. We have had problems here in the US with garden water feature pumps and GFCI problems. Everytime it was the pump.

I replaced the rcd. I think there may be an internal fault with the pump but wasn't 100% sure.

Did you test the pump itself or only the pressure switch in the off position? Some pressure switches can be manually operated.
