Default Hello from Michigan

Hi all,
I am a laid off UAW journeyman from an auto plant that is slated to close.
I found this forum while looking around for any job openings in SE Mi.
Still debating on taking a buyout or stay with my current employer and hope for the best. (I have until July 24 to decide)

Good luck with which ever one you choose.

Say, do you guys have to call it Lake Wisconsin cuz of what's on the other side like we have to?

Thanks.
I don't know about the lake for sure, I live on the other side of the state, I think you are right but if you are far enough south it would be Lake Illinois?

I used to do arc flash and substation training for UAW electricians, and we did all the switchgear testing too.

I "Escaped" from Detroit about 2 years ago, saw the writing on the wall. Welcome to the forum.

I hear ya, I am considering IBEW but I may have to do part of my apprenticeship over, to spite my GM/UAW apprenticeship, 11 years on the job, ect... In Michigan, as far as I can tell, I have to apprentice with the state for 4 years before I can take the state journeymans test!!

Hi, I'm from Flint. My dad retired from GM and so did my brother 2 years ago. Not me, I wanted to see the world. So I joined the Air Force and they sent me to Oklahoma.

I came here in 1978 and in the early '80s folks were living Michigan in droves. I have been told, that people who left Michigan and came to Oklahoma improved the Net I.Q. of both states.

Yep, that was me, on Brown Road in Auburn Hills. We did have some great food, I think some students came just for the food.

Along with the vault training I had the two week robot course as well.
I can blame ABB for a fair part of my overhang,

My buddy Tom did the robot training. Joe was the chef, I hear he is still there doing his magic.

Took a ABB robot course in Auburn Hills years ago.

The instructor was sitting in a chair, I think dreaming about his out of state golf outing the next day. Guys were prying out a axis motor(forget which one it's called). The reason it would come out was that axis was in mid-position with the brake holding it there. I was squatting down in front. I just stood up as they popped it out and that axis came crashing down to the hard stop.

If I wouldn't have stood up I would have got hit right on top of my head but instead got a grazing blow to my right side rib cage and hip. I refused medical treatment. The father of the instructor worked with me. I was sore for weeks but could have been alot worse!

Those robots do demand some respect.
A friend of mine was doing some work inside a cell when an adjacent cell was started up. To spite the cell he was in being properly locked out one of the robots moved and pinned his arm. He was out for 6 months, did alot of muscle and deep tissue damage.
