RE: Engineer from Florida.
I promise to stay in the wings and behave as a "non-electrician". I've been glancing through this forum for about a year now. Usually pull it up the day before I know I'm going to be working with something electrical for the reminders of why I should take my time.
My current major projects:
- radio system deployment (solar powered 12v stuff) for use with some flow meters underground.
- data acquisition system being installed on a navy tower in the gulf.
- ocean microstructure profilers and equipment:
- 5 km capable profilers, autonomous.
- wenches and kit for the short depth profilers. Inverters hate saltwater.
Long term projects:
- Rewiring a pair of custom build 30 year old heat exchangers. (crispy bread for insulation)
- Making a 3m turndable used for fluid experiments "safe".
Unfortunately, most of the big equipment in our lab was hacked together in the 70's. One main problem was the use of the conduit as the ground (power is very dirty). Second; no one appeared to know what a manual disconnect switch was.
While on our last cruise in the Pacific, I took a few pictures for you guys of the power systems on Alvin when they had the panels off. Hopefully, I'll get them posted soon. Pretty interesting stuff.
