Default Wanting to find a job as an apprentice where to start

Hello, I am very interested in becoming an electrician through an apprentice program, but my problem is I have no idea where to start. I live in a small town in northeast arkansas and I am currently working for next to nothing at an appliance store as an assistant manager.

Currently, I am 19 years old, and I live about 56 miles north of Jonesboro, ar which to my knowledge has a IBEW brotherhood. Could you guys help me get my feet in the door? I'm lost to how this deal all works, But I am very aware that as an apprentice I will have to do an extensive amount of grunt work for a long while and that doesn't bother me at all. I'm not afraid of heights, I'm pretty good at math and have always had a strange interest with electricity in general since I was young.

How does this situation look with the economy the way it is? Are my chances even decent of succeeding and becoming an apprentice in such a dead area?

Please help me figure out how to start this new career I'm clueless

Right now you might want to consider the military for your training, they are about the only people hiring.

Arkansas? I'm sure you could find work in a chicken plant.

But seriously, this is a tough time to get into the trade right now, especially with no experience and in, as you say, a dead area.

College isn't really an option because I have bills and my own house, and no parents or family to live at home with.. I pretty much have to work full time to afford everything I have.

Thanks for the response, but Judging from your reactions my situation seems hopeless
