Default Home Inspectors credentials

I wonder if this will help or hurt in the long run?

Or is this just another way for the non-profit CSA to make some more money at the little guys expense? But then some ways having all of the Home inspectors equally inept might be just the thing.

I think people were taken advantage of. Hopefully this will ensure real inspections and proper advice.

I am certified in infrared scanning, and it was really easy to get my certification (class + exam). I scan electrical systems, and in no way would I be able to do a real Home Inspection (unless it was just their electrical system), but I am qualified to do so. I think something is wrong with that

It is kind of a chicken and egg thing with the nhicc. They want to see 50 home inspections before you can start their program.
You should read the code of ethics on things they don't check and things they don't tell the customer.
I took an exam on one of the associations websites just to see how I would score and it said things like don't check the attic if access is difficult. Don't check the furnace if stuff is in your way. Never tell the prospective homeowner who to call to get prices to fix defects, Never tell them what you think the house is worth.

Bunch of B.S.

Hire reputable inspectors and there is no need for regulation.

Here home inspectors were not required to have any certificate of completion in any of the trades he's inspecting, let alone a license in the field. There are some who are in the trade already, doing HI that are much more qualified.

May be differant now.

Maybe once they get this in full swing there will be more reputable inspectors to hire in the first place. Face it the average buyer doesn’t know who is reputable and who is not, in many cases it’s first time hiring one and they have very little to go on other than some bank told them to call Mr. X.
