Default Aluminum GEC

What are the true rules on aluminum for a watermain ground ? I have an existing 200 amp service getting replaced Thursday, existing #4 AL crimper to a #4 Cu at the clamp. Is this reusable ? I have normally replaced them with a #4 cu. However, the price of cu and the span i need to run has me edging toward leaving it or upgrading it to a #2 AL with a AL rated waterpipe clamp. Is #4 AL acceptable ? the original installer had recieved an underwriters on it somehow. Normally i'd bite the bullet and replace with CU, but this job has already gone $500 over original estimated material cost.

And don't forget to use use (underground) for indoor I believe as well. You could try xhhw if your feeling wild and crazy and they may not catch it but.....

I used to always use copper til about a year ago. Depends on length of run I guess $$$$
