Default Bonding GEC to neutral

Can you bond the GEC to the neutral on a jumpered bus. Example would be you land your neutral on a bus then run a jumper to your ground bus and land your GEC on the ground bus. I read through 250 and I didn't see where it says you can't do this. Want to make sure I'm not missing something.

You should bond the GEC to the neutral. The best way to insure that is to land them on the same buss. It does not say to insure that the GEC and the Neutral are at the same potential...even though they are.

I got pinched on this. It wasn't a big deal to change, but I was never cited a reference. Why did you have to do this?

I always land on the same bus just because.. but had a apprentice that landed a GEC on a seperate bonded bus. I wasn't sure if it was legit or not. Not overly concerned but like to know if the NEC allows this. I couldn't find anything prohibiting it.

If it is sized to carry the fault current you can. I usually run a #4 or #6 if I'm in a situation where it is necessary to do that. Sometimes its the easiest / fastest way to go.

Take a look at 250.24(A)(4).

Where the main bonding jumper specified in 250.28 is a wire or busbar and is installed from the grounded conductor terminal bar or bus to the equipment grounding terminal bar or bus in the service equipment, the grounding electrode conductor shall be permitted to be connected to the equipment grounding terminal, bar, or bus to which the main bonding jumper is connected.
