I used some cool LED fixtures from edwards signal, I think, for that, and for eye wash alarms. They were 3 wire, neutral plus 2 hots, one did steady burn then when you hit the other with power it went to flash.

They're only available in 48" T8, the defacto size for commercial fluorescent lighting today. They're available in 32W(normal) and Energy Saver type in 25 and 28W. 3,000; 3,500 and 4,100 are available in every model and the 32W version offers 5,000 and 6,500K.

Those five pretty much covers 99.9% of commercially available general service fluorescent lamps.
how do those T5's stand up EL ?

~CS~

Where before this post (#8 I think) did someone try to "slam" LED's? A couple questions and one homeowner done study.
Try to contribute not just spout off.

Don't get me wrong, if it wasn't for LEDs, I wouldn't be able to see what's on this screen. LEDs provide the required backlight lighting.

Our company sells fluorescent, induction, and LED, so we don't have a bias one way or another (disclaimer). Aside from getting down to the specs of LED vs. T8, T5, induction, etc, a lot of customers like LED for the "cool" factor and nothing more. It's a cool technology and some people like it better than fluorescent.

We also did a big LED linear tube project for a software company for no other reason than that a lot of the employees were getting headaches from staring at the computer all day using fluorescent and they wanted to switch over. They set up each office with a dimming system so everyone could lower the light levels as much as they want and LED's worked well for it. Cost and energy savings were not even in the picture.

In general I would just say that different customer needs and applications may warrant LED, or it may not.
