In addition, things are still slow right now, so it will take a while for them to call you out to work as a summer helper, do what I did, be pro-active and call contractors yourself (union of course) go to contractors blue book online for list. cold call them, tell them you need work. Remind them that you are cheaper labor then a journeyman and sell yourself. Once in the apprentice program you cannot make cold calls but as summer helper... GO FOR IT!
Hey Humane, thanks for the congrats. It took me a little over a year from the time I took exam in November 2008. But I think it is moving a bit faster now. There is a guy in my class that took the test in August 2009.... so depending on when you have interview and how you score on that , you will be placed on list accordingly. As far as summer helper program, just go to your local hall and sign up for the program, they will tell you all about it, call and set up appt with them! Hey good luck!
