Default Hiring First Employee

So I'm finally taking the leap and hiring someone for first time. I went and spoke with my CPA today for guidance and advice. This is definitely a game changer as far as taxes and overhead go, but an inevitable move nontheless. As for calculating employees withholdings he recommends using a free site called paycheckcity.com( I think, can't recall and don't feel like getting up right now). Any advise or pointers for a newby like me? Thanks in advance.

If you use quickbooks you can subscride to thier payrole service that allows you to do your own payrole with tax updates and all the required forums to submit. You should have been doing this with your first employee YOU. When you get to three or more employees a payrole service is the way to go.

Criminal background check, drug test, driving record check, proof of licensing or certification if required in your area. Interview prospective candidate twice, check references, check employment history. Just a few to get you started.

Do you have an employee handbook to lay out expectations?

No handbook yet, luckily I'm hiring my old boss.
