Anyone own a Mister Sparky franchise?

They are probably very good at what they do.

I have a friend who had a plumbing problem. She called one of the franchise plumbing outfits and they came according to schedule and fixed the problem. The guy was clean, cordial and professional. After he fixed the problem, he asked if she was interested in a new faucet. He went to his van and brought back three samples. She chose one and he had it installed it on the spot.

I gotta tell you this woman is cheap. Everything she owns is held together with duct tape and bubble gum until it finally dies. She was very happy with her new faucet, however, even if she really didn't need it.

I don't know much about these franchises but I can assume that they are very good at maximizing profit from a very specific market segment. All too often we see ourselves as electricians first. A franchise, however, uses the same formula to sell anything from home services to doughnuts. The product is secondary. The formula comes first and is designed to maximize profit from every given opportunity.

If you look at all the famous entrepreneurs, product is secondary. Branson, for example, has used the same formula for selling records, airline tickets, cell phone service, air play and vacations. If he simply saw himself as a record producer, he would be trying to make a living selling us Sex Pistols box sets forty years after the fact.

Are we electricians first or are we entrepreneurs?

I know I have exceeded the three sentence rule but I hope you get my point...

Mr. Sparky, bring me a dream
(Bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen
(Bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover
(Bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome installs are over

Mr Sparky, I'm so alone....
Don't have nobody to call to my home
Please turn on your magic routine
Mr. Sparky, sell me a scheme

I've been using their salesman strategy. I sold a few panel changes since. Anytime i encounter a panel that either got contaminated by water or heat from a loose breaker i automatically tell the customer that their panel needs to be replaced due to the reason found. The conductive characteristics of the bus bar have been compromised by either heat or water damage. Otherwise no warranty on my work exist and they have a unreliable and possible fire hazard condition in their home. Sells every time.

Please contact me and I can show you exactly how a Mister Sparky can grow your business bigger and faster then you ever thought possible. They are the real deal. Their techs are the highest paid in the industry. Their locations make the highest net margins in the industry. They have systems, marketing, training, support, call centers, and much more.
Yes, they do have high margins because of the scare tactics and price gouging. I have had numerous second opinions from clients who were told "your panel is over 20 yeast old. You need to replace it because it is a fire hazard. $2000-$3000 for a simple panel change. Not a service upgrade. Their techs are NOT the highest paid in the industry. They don't have the hourly pay and benefit package offered by the local IBEW, at least in my area. You're full of it bro.

Im sure ive said this before probably at the beginning of this ancient thread, but mr. Sparky/mr.electric/Ben Franklin plumbing/etc. are not what I want my business to be. There's one near me and as far as I know theyre not that great. I had a guy from mr. Electric trying to get me to sign on a couple years ago, and I didn't like anything about the way they did things. They even tried to use their scare tactics on me "we WILL be opening a franchise in your area, and if its not you then they'll be your competition!!!" Lol ok.. 2 years later there's still no mr. Electric here.. they really rubbed me the wrong way, I repeatedly asked for specific information about how they did things, what it would cost me and what the payoff would be etc and everything was very vague and mysterious. It really gave me the feeling that I was going to find out a lot of those things after it was too late to back out. The biggest thing was though, I built my business myself the way I want it to be, and I didn't want to turn that over to someone else's control for whatever supposed benefits there might be.
