Default I have a story I'd like to tell

Once upon A time I got a contract to wire a new residnetial
dwelling.

It was through a builder (a pretty good one) who sub contracted
the electrical scope of work to me.

I began as I always do , with the service and then proceeded to
the rough-in.

The owners had a son who was (guessing here) 15 ,16 years old,
seemed a little off behavior wise and was most definitely interested
in what my job was.

His odd behavior included climbing on excavation heavy equipment
and starting it up , running through out the job at high rates of
speed , jumping off the doorways acroos open trenches around some
parts of the outside.

Of course , occassionally he would stop by me long enough to ask
"watchya doin?...I can do dat"!...grabbing the working end of the
romex from my spinnner and taking off across the house with it.

Okay you get the point. The bottom line is , the builder had to get
involved to talk to the peoples parents who were just plain dizzy.
"Oh , he's just interested in construction"...he wants to be plumber
..he wants to be an electrician.

It went on & on because the parents could not control the kid.

He was even adding and changing romex runs from 2 wire to 3 wire
because he had some big plans down the road and his Mom just
thought it was the cutest thing...(I changed it back and
the builder just would not allow the people on the job without
him there.)

The moral of my story is ...sometimes enthusiasm is just bad
behavior.

See the post titled "Temporary Range Receptacle" in General electrical
discussion.

The fellow posting about his Christmas light project sounds nothing like your little hellian. He's not running around a construction site, he's working with his grandpa on his own house. I agree that his query belongs on a DIY site, but I also think some of you guys need to chill.

Okay ..Thganx Forum Mom...and if you actually believe what you just
said...you should be ashamed of yourself for encouraging a 15 year old
ALONE in a breaker panel

The Grandpa theme was brought in by him at the end of the thread as
well as him changing the whole theme of the OP. Pleeeease.

I think you are too gullible if you believe that a licensed electrician grandfather actually exists.

You should go logout and then attempt to register here and see how many times it clearly says that people like him are not allowed here. You should also look at his profile where he lied and said that he was an "Electrician".

I believe we're dealing with boys without a father in the home or only children... now very common.

That would explain just about everything.

&&&

An only-child is excessively coddled -- much to the detriment of the kid.

A boy growing up in a woman's world is at a severe disadvantage -- in every possible way.

He's not so much as clueless -- as anti-clued.

This I should true. The worst kid I ever saw in a job was a 12 year old whose parents were 60. They had 30 year old children but apparently they got bored and wanted another one. And they really coddled him. He was the most annoying and obnoxious kid you can imagine. I stayed away from him but still had issues.

He would literally ask me what I was doing and tell me I was wrong before I finished a sentence and then called his mom to tell her. And she went along with it.

I do have a grandfather that is an electrical contractor thank you very much. Maybe people shouldn't make assumptions based on age. And maybe you adults shouldn't act like kids.

I'm allowed anywhere I want. It says electrician talk. I'm talking about running wire to a range receptacle. Last time I checked, there is 120 volts on each hot leg and a neutral and a ground so there is electricity involved. Therefore, I'm allowed to be here.

Here is what I understand.

You signed up on this site and falsely identified yourself as to who you are. That is a sign of a character flaw, maybe a bit sociopathic.

You are showing initiative in that you are trying to figure out how to safely do something. That's a

I'm still not sure what you are doing, I know it involves Christmas lights, but I really am not sure where the range comes in.

IMO the best thing you can do is to jump over to the sister site and ask away, sounds like some of the guys from here might go over there and help you. This site is not meant for what you are asking us to do.

Maybe if someone explained to you for the 8th time you will finally understand.

When you signed up it very clearly said that this forum is ONLY for electrical professionals. It then said that DIY is NOT allowed. And finally, it asked you what your electrical profession is, in which you lied and wrote "Electrician".

Now I know at 15 years old you think you know everything, and you think you can call yourself an electrician because you touched a wire, but that's not how it works. The fault here lays with the bias moderators who allowed your DIY thread to continue on and didn't ban you like they do with the other non-electrician.

No, dude. This is a forum for professional electricians. You talking about being interested in electricity since you were a little kid is laughable, because you still are. Your query belongs on a DIY site (or posed directly to your EC grandpa if he exists) because what you are doing is DIY. my point was that some of these guys just get their panties in a bunch too easily. Talking as though some kid wiring up some Christmas lights is going to ruin the industry. They're right about you having no business poking around in a panel though. Stay curious, stay motivated, but stay safe. And read the terms of service when you join a forum. And don't lie. Saying you are an electrician is lying.

I did say his question didn't belong here. I just think you guys are being a bit dramatic is all.

Maybe you are right, and I agree with your other post too,

But I also agree with what hardworkingstiff said. I don't like when people blatantly lie and come in under completely false pretenses and then continue to make excuses to justify the lie.
