As impressive as it is, I'd much rather these guys be killing enemies somewhere.

Good point... I will do some digging and see if they are permanent performers or if they rotate out to combat assignments.

This is the only thing I could find:

The United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, or The Marching Twenty-four as it’s often called, is where perfection happens. Their purpose is “to exemplify the discipline and professionalism of the Marine Corps” and it’s something they’ve excelled at for nearly a century now.

This team was formed back in 1948 and was originally supposed to be a one time show, however, people were so impressed by their showmanship that the drill never stopped. Watching them is mesmerizing, as each move is carefully calculated, including the clicks of their rifles when they’re caught. The process for being selected for the Platoon is very grueling.

The first job of any Marine is to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy with superior weapons and tactics and or hand to hand combat.

I have a friend that was training for that. He had an "oops" moment when he got cut with the bayonet!

That's cool and I bet impressive in person. I've been to Old Fort Henry a few times as a kid and I loved the pipe and drum band they had.
