Every four years, the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Report Card for America’s Infrastructure depicts the condition and performance of American infrastructure in the familiar form of a school report card—assigning letter grades based on the physical condition and needed investments for improvement.

Grade: D+

Now if only congress would let Trump lead the infrastructure
charge , we would be able to change this title to happy...or
was that a bit too much kool aid...

Such 'report cards' are produced by lobbyists to chirp for more Federal funding.

They'll never grade higher than a D+, BTW.

The PRIMARY reason so much of America's infrastructure is so ancient is that America became 'fully developed', FIRST.

AND.

The Federal government loves to build... it's not so crazy about maintenance.

EVERY local government loves to cheese it on maintenance.

Hawaii is an extreme example: the streets only get re-paved right in front of election season.

So paving contractors go from famine to feast to famine -- over and over.

You'd not believe the damage tropical sun and rain do to asphalt ! ( Think bus stops. )

President Trump will throw our tax dollars toward our ailing infrastructure , then create as much hype out of the job creation as possible , and those who point it out as socialism not capitalism will be summarily dismissed as fake news, or fired.....

next!

Spending on infrastructure is a perennial favorite pork because it's the most local kind of pork, you get concrete, asphalt, dirt, and stone LOCALLY.

There is a problem with the motivation. The politicians that live for throwing money at this stuff don't want a nice low maintenance long lasting highway system, they'd much rather it crumble every few years so they can throw more pork at it. Ideally a highway project should only last about as long as the congressman's term in office.

The most reliable way to make money out of politics involves building things!

"Call them the construction men"

...A lame attempt by ABC news from a few years ago by the last administration...well...that didn't exactly work out.

FY2006 Transportation Budget

None of this shït ever works. It always gets fücked up one way or the other. They make it a he/she said, they said, it's not my fault, it's everyone else's fault...screw 'em.

They all suck.

Has there been a news-update, news crawl, newscast, etc, in the last 117 days without Donald Trump?

Lets turn the tables a bit here.....having worked around them for nearly 43 years, I give engineers in general an F-

Huge egos and small brains. About all that most of them know how to do is promote themselves.

There are most certainly a few good ones out there but they are few and far between. The vast majority of them are nothing more than educated idiots.

They're good at copying and pasting specs. I was on a job that specifically wanted MTW wire used, not dual rated with THHN and THWN. Whatever. I'll pick the fly**** out of the pepper with boxing gloves in the dark in front of a fan if that's what you want.

My favorite quote from an "engineer" was......."Oh, that's what it looks like, that's not what I had in mind at all".

Don't think Canada's old infrastructure is fairing much better.
The public will get behind spending big $'s on a new bridge more so than
rehabilitating an existing/working bridge. Since the politicians have to look
towards the next election, long term rehab suffers.
A small town I used to live in spent 10's of millions replacing the failing
clean water and sewage treatment facilities in the last decade or so. Part of
the costs have been passed onto the small property tax base. It's easy to find
folks complaining about the price of water, not so easy to find anyone who's
pleased there's no problems with clean water supply or trumpeting the fact
that raw sewage is no longer dumped into the river with every rain fall.
