When chip cameras came out, I did something like this to get them to replace cameras. Put a blank sheet of white paper in front of the camera and between the burn on the camera's imaging tube and the monitor, the background was still there. If I could get a buch of people with me in front of a 'papered' camera, those inside would usually freak out.

Some of the kids in my neighborhood played Army with BB guns, I had a Crossman pump that was very accurate!
