The whole thing looks like someone taking advantage of a situation but, its an interesting problem to have:
https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/...t-11738236.php One of the very wealthy private communities in SF didn't pay a $14 per year tax on its private road for 30 years. |

Mansions don't need street parking.
Anyway, that sale of the street was overturned.

This does not strike me as odd at all.\
there are a plethora of condo divisions where the streets are not public once you enter the gate. From that point on , the "homeowners association" owns the street and homeowners pay a monthly "HO's association fee" that often includes up keep of the street , snow plowing the street , garbage removal and in many other cases may even include landscaping , cutting the grass etc for each home. I'm not sure there's much of a difference. These people that bought that street. They are assuming quite a liability if you ask me. |

“I was shocked to learn this could happen, and am deeply troubled that anyone would choose to take advantage of the situation and buy our street and sidewalks,” said one homeowner, who asked not to be named because of pending litigation.

They're lucky he didn't install a wall or toll booth. He could end up with some quite hefty ransom.
Client of mine bought 1/4 of a city block from an attorney in the early 1990's. The attorney later sold off 1/2 of a city block contiguous to my client's property. In doing so, the attorney reserved an easement across my client's property, some years after he had sold him the property with no easement. The purpose of the easement was to provide access to the back of the attorney's property where he had installed a 20' gate. The owner of the 1/2 block seemed to think he had a right to use this easement, and that he could prevent my client from using his own property, so I advised my client to apply for a fence permit to erect a brick wall on his property line, thereby preventing anyone, including the attorney, from using the easement. We never intended to build a fence, but we wanted to prove that the city is obligated to issue the permit. This would mean the owner of the 1/2 block could no longer have access to his dumpster (and city garbage trucks coming in to empty it) and other access necessary for the use of his property. So we went out and surveyed the property and used spray paint to locate "future brick fence" and "tree" right in the middle of this illegal easement where it meets the street. Suddenly everyone came around and my client today has full use of his property. He, out of the kindness of his heart, allows the city garbage truck and other necessary access across his property, even though he has no obligation to do so.

We have the same deal going thru courts here. Guy own's the street itself. He is one of the dudes connected to royalty from the Nation of Hawaii that got overthrown. City tells him he has to fix the potholes. He starts charging all the tenants that park on his street rather large fee's to park on his road. It's across the intersection from Ala Moana - our largest mall. Very busy area. Before he got issued the order to fix the potholes or face fines, he was never charging anybody and lots of mall customers would park over on his street while they shopped. Nobody said anything to them.
Truth is the city saw a block with no parking meters and were trying to find a way to condemn it. This time they opened up a can of whoop ass on themselves. This goes deeper than just a typical land condemnation. Can't get away with throwing a Hawaiian off his land. Not easily . This doesn't get done without lots of protesters and hoopla and press. Looks bad. Heads roll. Ask the nice university people who wanted to put a telescope up on the top of the mountain about it, and how come it never got even started to build. They know bout such things now.

More importantly, a wall. An "immoral" wall. A hypocritical wall.

I would add you do not see the hypocrisy? These liberal twats are anti-wall, while in your case the person you are pointing to wants a wall, he sees and knows the benefits, where the twats see the benefit for themselves and screw the rest.
Just how their brand of socialism will work.

Brian, the ruling class in any socialist totalitarian regime is ALWAYS exempt from any and all rules and regulations placed upon the working class.
