flyboy - do yourself a favor. next time you are down, find a couple of local captains, fish the inside and the outside a few times, see what they got and what you see while you are out fishing and figure out what works for you. ..... so many options.
This is a really good idea.

Cigarette boats, although I like your name better. They are a lot like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. They are fast. They are not comfortable, they are not supposed to be. Unbelievably loud wide open, you'll be shouting even at idle. Riding in a boat at 70mph+ on anything but glass is a tooth loosening experience. They sell a few to real speed enthusiasts, the rest are just guys looking for something that might get them laid.

Since you have a girlfriend and she may be with you much of the time, think about some shade.
I love center consoles and powerful outboards, but shade is a minimal commodity on a fishing boat like this. This is a fishing boat. Its open all around the console for a reason.
The small roof over the console does not provide much protection from the sun.
I have seen pop up covers for them, but you can't run the boat with them up.

I would try to find something in between unless you and your girl are die hard fishermen and do not mind being in the direct sun almost 100% of the time.
A boat with a top and a small cabin would be pretty comfortable. The little cabin is nice in case of bad weather as well.
A little comfort goes a long way on a boat.

Actually the 2 best days are, the day you buy your first boat and the day you buy your next boat.

Why don't you rent one for a few weekends to see what works for you? Can be hard to find, though.

Does the boat need prop guards?

First center console I've seen with a bow thruster.
Is that that 40'er?
