Default Charging a sign-up fee.

Why not?

Once verified, you get your fee back in points.

It would eliminate homeowners and DIY contractors, and if not, you keep the fee.

If they cared they could moderate new members. It's only 1 click in the forum settings to make it so that the first posts that a member makes needs moderator approval to post. If it's a DIY or spammer, then the moderator just removes them. If it's a real electrician, then the moderator allows the post and can give them a regular membership.

It would take a few extra people to moderate the posts, but there are plenty here that would be willing to do it.

But that is a realistic way to do it. It would accomplish what you are looking to do.

No one is going to pay to sign up for a forum like you suggested. The new membership would drop to 0.

The new nonsense memberships would drop to zero, the quality memberships would go up.

What's your hang up with becoming a moderator?

The new membership would not go up at all. It's a really terrible idea.

This is almost as silly of an edgy little quip as "No need for bigger government.". Neither have any place in this discussion.

Not at all, you can post bad ideas like this all day. I'll allow it.

It's not that big of a problem and provides us with a bit of entertainment.

I don't think it's a problem either.

I just posting a revenue idea.

Who wouldn't pay $10 to read Hax's expertise electrical advice, or see what Mech is having for lunch?

It's not a revenue idea, it's the opposite. It would bring the new membership to 0. Zero.

The forum owners are not looking for "quality posters", they are looking for as many members as possible to make as many posts as possible to get as many ad views as possible.

They funnel off the DIYers to their DIY forums to keep the electrician here happy and posting more.

Oh I have an idea. Monthly subscription! 1$/month, or a year for 15$.

Or just do nothing because it's fine the way it is.

Sent from my new phone. Autocorrect may have changed stuff.

Of course not, because, we would know it's a scam to get personal info.

As long as Mech is posting recipes, for what-ever he's eating that day, I'm in.
