Default 3ways fed twice

I found that 2 3 ways were fed hot on both points so someone didn't load one side, as soon as I hit the switch the switch popped and tripped breaker . I didn't think that would happen since they were the same circuit same phase just fed on both points. Am I mission something here?

Thanks
Matt

Yes you are missing something FOR SURE.

No how, No way will it trip if the two energized lines are on the same phase.

How did you find this?

Seems odd that this has been that way for some time, until it was found.

Something else is going on. If someone was sloppy enough to hook
up 2 ccts to the same 3 way, who knows what else they eff'd up. I'd
be expecting a couple hours minimum to sort it out.

being fed twice on the same phase wouldnt do it. the wiring arrangement would. did you put in the switches? or how did this suddenly happen?

Two hots feeding three ways that are on same phase means there is a short in the wiring and the breakers trip on short circuit. Find the short (probably an unidentified white wire traveller on one end hooked into the neutrals at the other end. After you find and fix that, then get rid of the backfeed on the circuit.

Trouble shoot with your voltage tester and knowledge of the circuits path. Asking someone on the internet without including every single detail is beyond silly.
