Default Aluminum NM?

Is the black wire labeled 12 AL/2 WITH GROUND an aluminum 12 ga. branch circuit wire? The house is approx. 1970.

What you got there is pure premium genuine bonafide aluminum wire. , #12 lighting circuit wire. Whatch ya gonna do about it?

Like any good electrician he will inform them that while they are sleeping the aluminum will spontaneously combust and kill the whole family, except for one person, who will forever have to live with the fact that aluminum wire took the life of everyone they loved!

I'm going to look at it, find out where it goes and see if there is any more of it. I'm curious why there is only one run of aluminum.

1970 was a primetime for Al branch circuits, that other romex looks like it's out of the 80's. House might have been rewired with the exception of something like a furnace circuit.

Maybe it was the last of the aluminum he had, or the last of the copper?

15 amp aluminum branch circuit. Rip it out and put something in thats not a Hack-job waiting to happen.
