The empty trailer also dropped a spare tire.

Locally a school bus just lost a trailer on the road and the driver didn't know, just kept on driving....

I was wondering if it was his spool that he lost and somehow ended up on the other side of the barrier. Was thinking if it's copper wire, the trailer and tie downs were likely undersized and as the reel came off it damaged the trailer.

At least that's the story I crafted while watching the video....

Most likey it was weak tiedown straps and not properly blocked on the reel on flat trailer like that.

IMO .,, I think the trailer is little light for that much weight if that spool did carry that much copper conductors in there.

and I used to drive big trucks before many years back and I did haul those large spools before and never used nylon tiedown straps. Always use chain plus load binder that what it hold the heavy spools in place.

OK, I did once.
Pulling a small wire trailer and the spool jumped off and I didn't notice. My stupidity, just hooked up and gone.

But, I work at an airport and this was on the airfield. Makes it OK right, Wrong. I drive back to the shop and then realize I lost the spool. Drive back to find it and it's sitting in the middle of a taxi way. Thank goodness no aircraft needed to taxi for the 5 minutes it was there.
Now, most importantly, don't tell anyone.

Tim.

CDL drivers licenses now require a "Cable reel" endorsement if you're going to transport spools. Of course, the best and safest way to ship them is the least favored by those who use them.
