Hello all: We have a lot of GE and Cutler Hamer breakers, and some Square D HOM panels. Anyone here interchange between brands, putting the GE or CH into a SQ D HOM panel? Or do the SQ D HOM only fit SQ D breakers? Just like to avoid buying a lot CH breakers! MANY THANKS! Enjoy, Jon

Plus, home inspectors ding people for that on a regular basis when the house comes up for sale. Just stock some different brands of breakers on the truck, and some CL breakers for weird stuff, and you're good to go.

I suppose it's a point of technicality. They are not "listed" they are "classified".

Simply stated... they have a limited use because they are classified and not listed. Perhaps you meant to say that in your post.

He's talking about the CL-line of breakers. The Classified Replacements. Different than the CH-CH and the CH-BR's most of us are used to.

I 99 out of a 100 times will order the correct breaker for I have came across, there are a few times when I have came across a wadsworth or old westinghouse.. then a Cutler Hammer will work for a temp fix..and I recommend a panel replacement.

I used to stock the CL breakers, thought they were a great idea till our building dept decided we couldn't use them. Even though the manufacturer says they are classified to fit many brands of panels, every one of the manufacturers of the "other" panels forbids use of another brand in their panel. Can't even use them in a Cutler Hammer panel as they are not listed for that.
We can't use gutted panels for j boxes either, because they are not listed for that, have to rip em out, install a "listed" j box and patch the wall.
We can't even install a generic contactor in a generic j box because the two are not "listed" to be used together.
Makes me wanna be a handyman, no worries, just do it.
