If ya find a Three phase AFCI breaker then ya can do it but .,, Honestly I dont ever see that kind of beast of three phase AFCI breaker used for commercal side.
if you need the AFCI protection on three phase pânel .,, you will need to get single or two pole AFCI breaker and follow that breaker instruction for which way you run the netual on that.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but an AFCI employs ground fault protection, just as or similar to, a GFCI device. So for the same reasons you can't share the neutral on a GFCI, you can't on an AFCI.
I know with GE, I can take two single pole AFCI and share a neutral and connect them with a handle tie, as apparently the GFCI function isn't in those. Whether you can do that or not with other brands, I'd do some research. I know Square D two pole AFCI say no to 208v.
The three phase thing at the service isn't all that uncommon, but I've never seen any three phase in the apts themselves. Doesn't mean its not out there.
since there is no such thing as a three phase AFCI
Or even GFCI should tell you that they don't work on
true three phase loads.
If you read up on how they work
and really understand how they work ?
then it will all become clear why !
