What do you want it for? We run mostly Stihls for felling and limbing I have a husky that I prefer though. For pruning we use 1 handed Echos with 12 and 14 inch bars. Stihl MS280 is good for general stuff but I would drop down to a 16 inch bar.
I looked at a ryobi but one of my friends said they're junk. It looked alright for what I plan on using one for. Occasional limb clearing of service drops and maintain the 4 trees on my property, lol. I remember my grandad had a Stihl that he would use for hours with no problems . Not sure who sells those.

Trimming branches maybe 8"-12" thickness. I did see the pruning saws on poles, that might be good for the high stuff. I'm not adventurous enough to climb a tree and start cutting limbs , I like staying on the ground
Is Husqvara (spelling) comparable to a Stihl or not even close? I have 1 friend saying there are the top of the line. I don't know much about either brand
Maybe now they have gotten a little better, but I have a very close friend that works at a husquvarna dealer as a chainsaw repairman. 10 years ago, he swears 85% of their saws sold were coming back for warranty work. Those numbers have gotten better, but they are no where close to Stihl

We have ladders that have choke chains on then for climbing the straight pines we grow I dont climb them either mate. A 14 inch bar will do that but a longer bar is more versatile though you arent maximising the plants power.

I don't use one often to buy a good brand. I just got the 189 dollar special at Tractor Supply years back. It still starts fine. I have no idea what brand it is. It's green. That's about all I know, for sure. I do have a Stihl K12, because I use that far more often than a chainsaw.

I have a Stihl 290 Farm Boss with a 16" bar, I use it most weekends cutting firewood, It is a little small for cutting larger trees, the old 036 with the 3/8 chain is a cutting MOFO, It is a little tricky to use for bucking on the smaller branches. Stihl chainsaws are made in America. Enough said.
Well, not quite. They are assembled in the USA with a mixture of components from here and other places, for instance the bar is made in Germany and the chains are made in Switzerland.
Only problem i had with my stihl was the carb getting gummed up from this damn ethanol gas..... $40 for rebuild.... Run non ethanol or put in stabilizer!
I have husky saws. I would buy a husky or a stihl. I have a lot of friends who are loggers, and most of them run stihls. I second the comment about running non ethanol fuel, they dont seem to like the ethanol.
My question is which model Stihl saw? I see them in box stores and I know they are not what the loggers use up in the north west territories.
I was watching one of the logging shows on TV and the price of the saws were in the $1500.00 range.
Of course they have long bars. But a $1500 hundred dollar saw is not comparable to a $500 dollar saw? Right?
What is considered the professional model.
That saw (I did not watch with sound) in the video has a very sharp chain.
That is my problem. Sharpening a chain the right way.
Seems everyone has a different method that works for them.
I seem to make the chain worse by sharpening. I know I have not made any chain better so far. Last time I just replaced the chain out of frustration.
They want $12.00 to sharpen a chain at the shop here in town.
I would rarely use a chain saw today. But you never know. Winter is coming.
Theyre a German brand I have heard positive things about but never handled or used one.
