When I was little my parents would take me to the Catholic Mass on Sundays. There was a glass wall room in the back where mothers would sit with the babies and small children so that the wailing and crying would not be heard and interrupt the church service.

Just saying................

Now I understand your belief in walls. Was there a loud, obnoxious baby with bad hair in that room with you?

Those were Canadian churches .. In the USA they didn't have walled off rooms for the babies at the back, just the ones in Canada.

I've wondered for years why this site doesn't have one.

An apprentice section could accomplish:
1. Reducing the "you dummy" responses because, after all, it is an apprentice section
2. Reducing any reluctance an apprentice may have in asking a question
3. Inviting apprentices to participate and letting them know they have a place here

I'm sure there are other things I missed but I see it as an overall good thing. It could simply be called Apprentice Q&A.

It would be a good place for apprentice related stickies. It wouldnt matter much to me, since I just hit "new posts" whenever I come here anyway.

No, don't think this site needs an apprentice section.

Why not? More important to let them partipate and ask questions. Concentrate on keeping the non electrical people OUT!

Would suggest doing as large construction sites do, making them wear a different hard hat, or sticker. Most say they are apprentices, but many do not, which makes the thread confusing.

If you're an apprentice in this great trade, you should be proud of it, and not mind letting others here know.

Most journeypersons are more than willing to help. Keeps us feeling young.

I also need to know your thoughts on a title and description.
well, they are apprentices.

perhaps it should go right at the top where they can find it.
you might need to put the tile in big bold letters too.
maybe someone can insert code so that if their profile says they are an apprentice they go right to that section and it slaps them in the face or something

I agree with the others that it is a waste of space, and will probably
just be another area for trolls and goofing, but what the heck do I know about internet forums anyway - that's your area of expertise.

In my time here, I have never seen a problem with any of those issues you brought up.

I don't care either way, I just don't currently see an issue. Apprentices ask lots of questions and are treated just fine. Hell, they are given much more respect on this forum than I have typically seen on jobsites over the years.

FWIW, I would rather have a contractor forum that was private from public view. There are been many things that I won't post here because I don't want my customers to see it pop up in a Google search if they were to search for the situation. I also notice that people are reluctant to talk about rates and money out in the open.

How about we try it for a month and see where it goes? If we're not feelin it, get rid of it.

Possible title: Electrician Apprentice Forum

How about a description? Any ideas? I want to make it clear that it is not just for apprentices - that anyone can reply, that it is simply that the topics are more geared toward apprentices.

Start a new thread on this. I don't see any reason why we couldn't do this. Figure out all the details that would be important to everyone. Is privacy from Google the only thing that matters? Any MEMBER could view or do you want a minimum number of post before it can be viewed, etc.

I think it's a good idea.

Won't know until we try it, and it may make the apprentices feel more at ease to post a question

A one month trial is cool, if it doesn't work we eliminate the UK section and give the apprentices three more months!
