I don't usually work on any appliances. Would you take this call?

Realtor I do a lot of service calls for owns this place- and rents it out. Burners are shot and 3 of the selector knobs are also not working. The bottom is soldered shut- no way to access knob wiring except thru the element holes. Would you? I did it, but it took me 6 hours to get er done.

Edit- not soldered, welded....... brain fart.

You got that right, was over $1,200 and that was with repeat customer discount. She does feed me lots of calls. She really loves that sixties stainless countertop, money is no object. By the way, they don't even make the same controls anymore, I had to hack in replacements with different wiring scheme.

Was on the hottest day of the summer. I had to stick my head in the element holes as best I could to see, but then I wasn't able to put my arm in at the same time. And the flashlight would roll around a lot pissing me off more and more. The echo of me using profanity bouncing off the stainless walls of that cooktop was kinda hard on my ears too.

Next time she has to call somebody else.

Looks like a period piece so worth fixing. I would think that a realtor would have seen the new induction tops or even gas is supposedly what "real" cooks want for food temp control. But lots of folks like what they know. Probably Better you did it than an appliance guy since they may have just said "no way"

That's pretty cool. I worked on an old house here in town that had a big stainless steel kitchen like that with a center island about 20 feet long with burners and two stainless steel dishwashers all from the 50's. The house also had a walk in cooler, grand ballroom and a servant's wing. Still had the old servant call phones you just pick up and call the servant out to bring you a brandy or whatever.

Check out this vintage appliance place we have right here in Tucson, they sell all around the world.

I was in about 160 bucks for the new elements and three ''speed controls''.
The box was next to impossible getting the wiring on the new controls cause of inability to get a look at them at the same time my hands and arms could reach in to do the work. My I pod touch video camera came in pretty handy during that one.

Coming in from an across town job, the drive thru traffic wears me down a lot.
