I got a job to do at a local printing shop. The machine was built in the 1940s or so and its an old typecasting machine. It melts lead and i believe uses the lead to make the pieces used to print with. Right now its running on 120 volts. It needs 230 to run properly. Its able to run on 120 but it does not get hot enough to melt the lead. it only draws 12 amps at full load
That's a typesetting machine, I think. Typecasting is what happens to an actor who played the same role so often that nobody can picture him as anything else, so he gets passed over for different roles.
Very interesting machines, and if you can get it powered correctly, I'll bet it works flawlessly. Lost art.

I am with these other posters, hire me (us) for this job. I love working on these kinds of jobs. The machine is not so big that you get wore out running from one end to the other. There is not 300 pages of prints, with the really important ones missing. And there is no cheap little plastic IEC stuff jammed in to tight to work with....
I think I would start by ohming out the heaters (if there is more then one). And going from there.
I think I could have this done in 28 years or so....just in time to retire.
