PoCo tells them "$xxxx to run 3 phase to the garage, homeowner buys it, notices that he gets 2 meters; kWh and kVAR, finds out too late that the kVAR meter is being used to penalize him for low PF, and as mentioned,
Around here, it used to be (and maybe still is) that VARs were billed only on services over a certain capacity. Not sure of this but if I remember, it was any service over 400 amps at any voltage.

Now that the POCO is owned by a billionaire and the newfangled smart meters have been foisted on us, I'd bet a lot that every service will be billed both KWs and KVARs in the next few years. And very likely peak demand as well.

I had a customer with 75hp and 100hp air compressors. I added Capacitors to their service entrance and reduced their electric bill by $600 per month.

Duquesne Light is the only power company I've seen that charges for a Power Factor. Some large industries have installed variable capacitors that automatically adjust to correct the Power Factor.
PF billing 'bumps' have been around for DECADES... dang near forever.

A rotten PF causes the Poco to up-size its conductors -- and everything else.

So it's a charge against capital -- as against energy.

With VFDs and such, PFs have been climbing.

I got one of those for Mrs. macmikeman and she banged it up repeatedly over and over . We have now settled the issue, Accura is all she gets now.

I've had all of them and decided that luxury cars have so many complex systems and technology changes so fast I would only lease them.
But, my wife didn't want to give up her SRX for the new XT5, that one we bought.
I won't consider Asian branded cars but have had English and German brands.

I have a beautiful 450HP Cadi DTS, it has just 50,140 miles on it and the body is in showroom condition. The engine is shot and it needs some electronic repairs.

My nephew in the business says it isn't worth the cost of repairs.

My Mercedes had 109k on the clock and ran like a clock when I bought the Cadi.

Huge mistake going to American from German.
