Default Making it illegal to sell electrical equipment?

This stems from the DIY panel thread...

Do you ever think that we will see a time where government steps in and makes it illegal to purchase or sell electrical parts/equipment without proving you're a licensed electrician?

The way the government's going, I don't doubt it.

Last year there was 40,000 new laws added across America. And all we do is ask for more.

Soon we'll have to ask permission to breathe.

I should have prefaced this by saying that I hate the government, and think they are already way too involved in our daily lives, but they've regulated everything else, Im just surprised they havent touched this stuff yet...

That fight was fought a long time ago, some of the plumbing supplyhouses here will not sell to unlicensed people but you can get all that stuff from the depot.

So it's not going to happen and it's better that it does not, guys like him will kill people no matter how strong the laws are.

I don't think so and I hope not.

I get where your coming from but HD makes to much money as well as everyone else who cleans up work like that.

If government got involved I can seriously see them taking over the rest of it including our trade... and we all know what happens to something our government touches

FWIW in Norway anything outside of changing a light bulb us illegal.

Yup, that's true. I think educating the public goes a long way but some people will stop at nothing to spend more time, money and effort to do it wrong.

Our Government has now banned the making of ammo for certain guns..... We can't take anything for granted anymore. Where will it end.

Well they kind of already are. They require licensing, make us follow the NEC, OSHA, etc...

True, but haven't taken over the CMP or supply houses. Can you imagine if we had to pull a permit just to buy something from a supply house?

I think the government has bigger issues than hacked up wiring.

At one time I could buy fireworks without a permit. Now I need a permit issued by the city fire dept to purchase them . they also want to know the address of where they will be set off. Homeowners and licensed electrical contractors can get a permit to do electrical wiring. Maybe proof of permit before panels and loadcenters can be purchased.

I would like to see our breakers and loadcenters restricted the way A/c equipment is but, as long as HD is in business, I can't see that horse getting back in the barn.

I like to be able to work on my home. I can change a faucet, but I would rather hire one of the plumbers I do business with to do any renovations on my home. I also like to work on my cars if I choose to. I really don't care to mess with the AC and have people for that. I don't think any of us would like to lose the ability to work on our own home, framing, plumbing, whatever.
