( Not quite knowing what to do with the 1/4 day difference between our path around the Sun and the number of spins ( days ) the Romans re-calibrated their celebration of Janus every so often. So the fact that Yule and Christmas coincide is just coincidence?

Anyone noticing lag in the internet today? Not this site specifically, but in general.

This is lagging very slightly but nothing like it used to.
I did some editing on our website and had some problems staying connected (lost 10 min worth of work). Then published it and couldn't even load pages on a browser remote from the server.
Tried playing miniclip pool and it's dysfunctional due to lag (not uncommon for them but today it's the worst I've ever seen it).

Is it from people getting tech gadgets for Christmas and logging them on and downloading a bunch of stuff maybe?

A Christmas love story....
A couple was in a busy shopping center just before Christmas.
The wife suddenly noticed that that her husband was missing and, as they had a lot to do she called him on the cell.
The wife said "Where are you, you know we have lots to do".
He said "You remember that jewelry store that we went into about 10 years ago, and you fell in love with that diamond necklace. I could not afford it at that time and I said I will get it for you some day?"
Little tears stared to roll down here cheek as she got all choked up.
"Yes! Yes, I do remember that shop!" She replied
"Well I'm in the gun shop next to it."

My guess would be the Xbox users downloading games.
When my son downloads one ... I can't do chit on the internet... microsoft has a HUGE pipeline when it comes to downloads.

I'd think playstation does too !

I have like 25-50mbps.... I don't normally notice lagging with a download and streaming. Maybe from all my forum lurking though.
