Default Ug yuck

We are doing a complete rewire on a 1932 hotel. It is quite a challenge for our poor guys. This place is a residential hotel that is a dump. It's a cross between one flew over the cookoos nest a 1/2 way house and an old age home. Some of the rooms are incredibly disgusting. I just got this photo from our lead electrician. He called it the worst room so far.

One room had had someone die in it and stunk like a dead body. In another one he took off a cover plate and a swarm of roaches ran out. I'm gonna need to give them hazard pay.

Share your gross stories here.....

Yes but wait until that same person accuses someone of breaking something or stealing something that does not exist. Yuck

There is a housing type for everyone. What markets do you serve?- From the guttermost to the uttermost.

All in a day's work.

Until you have to work in them all day. If this is a roominghouse, it's doubtful they have air conditioning. Working in Tyvek is like wearing a raincoat in a sauna.

I deal with an establishment like that too, the local civic association bought a page in the Newspaper condeming it. The town and county are up their ass. Last year 4 deaths of overdosing. Stains on the walls, rats , roaches, nasty. prostitution and drugs. It's amusing going there though, I saw the cops take down some transvestite that flashed some old lady, heard the screams of agony all the way on the other side of building. But they pay and don't question the bill I give them, I got a check for $450 saturday from a call a few weeks ago to tidy up exposed wiring in the attic.

The owner is a dream. He never questions our price and pays in days. Job has been a can of worms too. Ended up costing more than double due to all the hidden problems. He owns a bunch of these flea bags too. we have been on this job since April 1. Have 3_4 more Weeks to go. Poor guys. They really rose to the occasion. We hired 3 more guys and they are really good so now it is up to me to have enough work after this job to keep them working. Good idea to sanitize tools before bringing back. I never thought of that.

I would say at the end of this "colorful" job make sure that you remember to give your guys a lot of kudos. You know a nice BBQ or dinner out or something (cash never hurts either). But basically give them a really nice thank you for sticking it out, it will pay back in spades.

I would also make a call to whatever state or local agency governs hotels and motels.

That's repulsive...
