From what I've seen, inside wireman have some of the best training and widest scope of work out there. As a wireman I've done everything from 35KV to fiber. I have buddies from class that are relay techs, substation wireman (345kv), PLC programmers, industrial maintenance, Siemens control reps, BICSI trainers... It's a nice card to have. It will open doors.
I seem to rember that also. I was going to reply that the IRS considers me an electrician and the Intenational office of the IBEW considers me an inside wireman.
Also the monthly IBEW journel lists all the locals by their classifications. Some locals represent multiple classifications. I usually dont read the locals events and news if they don't represent inside wiremen.
When I went through the residential program I think I was still an inside wiremen although my monthly dues to th I.O. was a little less. It was the same as an apprentice, but all the pensions are the same.
My state license says I'm and EL01 General Journeyman Electrician. My union classification says Inside Wireman.
