Default Wire Dispenser

I have this wire dispenser for NM (romex).
I've had it for a couple of years but still trying to figure out something!

Is it better to pull the wire from the outside of the coil or inside? I've tried both ways and seem to have problems with it hanging up sometimes. Not every coil does it but it happens often enough to be aggravating.

You are supposed to pull from the outside of the coil.

I'm surprised it worked at all pulling from the inside.

That's what I thought and how I do it mostly. I kept having it hang up so I tried it from the inside. It hung too.
I looked on the website and it showed how to load it but made no mention of inside or out.

Are you using the single drum model? Maybe that drum is too big for the size wire you are using?

When you set it up, make sure that the wire is coming off of the outside of the coil and that it doesn't slip off the outside of the coil and get wrapped around the middle. That is the only thing that ever gave me trouble.

Is it a used one or new? Someone's it gets hung up no matter what. If you don't have the foam inserts inside it will definitely get hung up.

Guys on our jobs use to make these out of 2x4 on every job with a hook too gang from the ceiling joists. Never had any issues with them. This is a fancier version.

I spent 15 minutes building that spooler, the coil sits down on the center part. I just hung it and hadn't straightened it out yet.

No, it's the double like the picture. It's the right size for the wire.
I even use the foam rings. Maybe I need a larger ring?

Funny thing is I've went through several coils before without a single hangup. Then I go through several hangups on some coils. I'm beginning to think it's the way some coils are wound and/or different brands of wire.

Never underestimate the lack of quality from any manufacturer.

I'd post another picture of my wire spooler again, but I don't want any gay members to go into melt down mode like last time and end up on the suicide ward or something.............

You should post your recessed light template with your old man feet in the picture.

I have the same model, works well.

Maybe you need to adjust the tension, which could be to lose or to tight.

That's what I keep in truck, smaller size stays stocked 14-2 and 12-2, larger 14-3 and 12-3

I've had them long enough that Romex still came in boxes when I bought them, at that time they worked great The Romex we buy now does not work nearly as well

There are two notches in the center donut specifically for you to place the inside tail of the coil locking it in. Makes wrapping up any excess wire previously payed off much easier.

Never really, maybe a handful of times in a several hundred coils of wire, did I have trouble with these dispensers, so I chalk that up to a funky coil. I just love mine.

Sticky wire works better. You know how sometimes when you're pulling the Romex off the coil you could almost here it crackle? That's what you want, where the Romax sticks together really well. This way it doesn't fall off the side of the coil and get looped around the center.

Does wire not come on a spool where you guys live? I've never even heard of these before. They look cool but I just built a pair of spool stands that you slide a pipe through to hold the wire.
